Jonesboro High School Library Modernization
Jonesboro High School Library Modernization
Jonesboro School District wanted to update the existing centrally located Jonesboro High School Library. It is a space visible from much of the school due to the open floor plan in that area of the campus. However, space was not being used consistently by the students. The students primarily entered the library to perform specific tasks assigned to them by teachers or when a classroom relocated to the area to work on a group project. The library is central to the floor plan and highly visible. It deserved to be a space of high activity. The District determined that modernizing the library to host a variety of assignments would be a better use of the space and serve as a catalyst to draw students. The redesign still allows the area to function as a library but with a higher web-based, collaborative emphasis supported by associated common spaces for students. The library now houses space for coffee and light snacks, small group presentations, flexible seating areas for various size groups and activities, office and conference space, laptop computer and charging stations, circulation desk and stack space for books. The result is a library that achieves the desired goals of creating various pockets of space for many uses and a highly active environment more appropriate for the central area of the campus.
